Henderson (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews This review is from: KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner, Red (Kitchen) I've used this (Chinese made) salad spinner for over two months.Pros: Okay, it's better than my previous Italian made spinner with the crank. Even though that one has a larger capacity than this KitchenAid, it was prone to getting unbalanced which the KitchenAid has yet to do. The dividers work for helping to spin dry herbs like cilantro, even when I just place it in one of the three divided compartments. No unbalance. Cons: Unlike my old one and the Oxo, the design of the KitchenAid does not allow me to easily wash or rinse items using the drying basket insert: the plunger in the center easily takes in water which I'd prefer not to get water inside. I was able to remove the plunger assembly although it did take some effort to remove it the first time. While I can live with accidentally locking the plunger while spinning the basket, it's annoying that the base of the bowl has a plastic ring with holes. I'm guessing the holes create a semi-seal to... Read more 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful By M.G. (Seattle) - See all my reviews This review is from: KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner, Red (Kitchen) What a poorly designed device. The plunger makes it virtually impossible to rinse lettuce thoroughly, then it leaves the lettuce too wet after spinning. To top it off the spinning mechanism stripped after the third or fourth use. This thing is such total garbage that it's hard to believe it's made by KitchenAid. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By This review is from: KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner, Red (Kitchen) I was looking to see how much these cost and how to find replacement parts because I had received mine as a gift and the plunger had broken after less than 10 uses. I saw all these reviews and felt like I had to add my own. When I received this, I was so excited. No more hating to wash lettuce! A great time saver! NOT!!!! I discovered it was difficult to wash spinach and lettuce, but I made it do... just took a lot of time. I liked it more for broccoli or chunky foods. In all cases, though, it was so frustrating to get it going into a good spin and all of a sudden it would jerk to a stop because the plunger got pushed down a bit too far. Washing was an issue because I didn't want to get water in the plunger, but that was impossible. The holes in the bottom of the bowl had one purpose...collect water and waste hrs and space drying. Once the plunger broke, I tried using it as a fruit bowl. The colander allows air circulation, but the design of the bottom for the plunger damaged the... Read more |
